Housing is a Human Right

Why are politicians not talking about the housing crisis?

A quarter of a million people are homeless. More than one million households are currently on social housing waiting lists. Most young people have no hope of buying their own home, spending an absurd portion of their income on rising rents. As your MP, I will support local renters’ unions in defending the rights of private renters and advocate for rent controls. I will also demand the removal of unsafe cladding in our constituency, as part of a broader package of leasehold reform. Ultimately, we will not fix the housing emergency until treat housing as a human right, not a commodity. That’s why I am completely opposed to housing associations selling off our social homes. I have long campaigned to end the scourge of empty homes in Islington - let's turn empty homes in social housing instead!
